Adventures in Physical Therapy: Why rebuild your core when you can just sit around and eat chips?

My first thought, upon heading into the physical therapist’s office, is “What’s with all these obese people lounging around on recliners and eating chips?”
My second thought, upon completing my medical history being led to one of the recliners is, “Ohhhh. It’s a massage chair. Nice.”
My third thought is, “Why didn’t anybody tell me you could bring chips to physical therapy?”
My fourth thought is, “Where do you get the chips? Do they have them here? Is there a vending machine out in the hall?”
My fifth thought is, “Maybe you have to earn the chips, like maybe they’re prizes for doing ten minutes on the bike… But should PTs really be using empty carbs as incentives?”
Eventually we did some non-sitting, non-eating things and I realized that there weren’t actually that many bags of chips running around– just two– but there were lots of mirrors the fact that I did not have a bag of chips made it seem like everyone else did.
But today was just my first appointment and I’m supposed to go three times a week for the next month. So I’ll be prepared next time, with my very own bag of Smartfood Popcorn. Because you know, health.
(Or not. Who the hell brings snacks to physical therapy anyway?)

Chips go with all sorts of activities…and come to think of it, non active ones too 😉
“I realized that there weren’t actually that many bags of chips running around– just two– but there were lots of mirrors the fact that I did not have a bag of chips made it seem like everyone else did.” — nothing like seeing other people eating chips to make you crave them. 😁
I snacked on a whole bowl of sea salt and vinegar chips this afternoon while writing a blog post about the KonMari tidying craze. Chips are so moreish when you’re writing (and at pretty much any other time…)
All the best with the physical therapy. Three times a week sounds like a lot of work! Have they given you a ton of exercises to do at home too? I’m terrible at remembering to do my PT homework…
